i hate Cosmodore's videos. yes even before he was exposed for being (words censored).

mainly because i can't stand these videos from him. his Spongebob episodes ranking are basically poor man's version of Pieguyrulz's Every Spongebob Episodes Reviewed. (and not to mention way too predictable.) his obscure cartoons reviews are insulting. overused words like "Terrible" or "Mediocre" in his video's title. (his Plane Review, his Croods Review, etcs) and does anyone even find his meme thumbnails even funny? (did you or someone else?)

but yeah, i hate Cosmodore before, and i hate him even more as hell when he's exposed..
Same. Just as much as I hate Valiskibum, (Little Miss) Enter, and PhantomStrider (as critics of Western animation, of course! Hating them as people is going a bit too far, because at least they're not criminals like Cosmodore is and is deserving of such hatred!) - their opinions and vids expressing them ALL ROYALLY SUCK(ED) to me. Always have, always will.
Cosmodore is simply more hateworthy only because of being exposed for his criminal behavior, however. Let's never forget that.

As much as I hate those other three reviewers (again, as cartoon reviewers, not people!), I'm sure if they did other stuff that wasn't in my favorite medium and didn't conduct criminal activity like Cosmodore has, I'd likely grow to think better of them someday, honestly. They all just need to get real jobs and stick to them, that's all - reviewing/talking about anything Western animation when they (Enter, Phantomstrider, Valiskibum) aren't good at it themselves? NO. JUST NO. Because, again - they're just not good at it, which is what makes me express these negative feelings toward them, sadly.

Doesn't help that the fans for these 3 are worse, simply for parroting their stuff as if it is FACT, rather than forming their own opinions - I will especially never forgive these fools for giving actually good and criminally mistreated Nicktoons like Welcome to the Wayne AND Harvey Beaks such poor reviews, especially when they barely watched either show like I ACTUALLY PUT IN THE EFFORT TO DO, MYSELF, thank you very much!

My stance: if you're going to review a series, don't be like these 3 I mentioned whom unfortunately suck at what it is they're trying to do. Actually make an effort and not only know what you're talking about and why, but actually REVIEW THE WHOLE SHOW or at least A SEASON or two of it, before passing judgment, please and thank you! That way, then and only then, can I take what you're trying to say about something with an actual grain of salt levels of seriously. This is something even some good YouTube Western animation reviewers don't easily seem to get and it disappoints me ever so much 24/7/365, personally and honestly.

I really liked his video on the Kung Fu Panda trilogy.

I like some of PhantomStrider videos. And what I don't, well, I just ignore. Like the way he is dismissive towards Disney's earliest films.

I remember finding him once, though, in a comment section for an YouTube video of an episode of the 1980s Astro Boy anime. You guys know I love Astro Boy. He said that he loved the anime and would really love to make a list of its best episodes, but can't because the anime is way too obscure in the West (it's true that the anime is insanely obscure here in the West world), and such video wouldn't have many views and monetization. I felt sad reading that.

Valiskibum is okay, his content is rather low effort, Phantomstrider is really low effort, so its pretty dull after a while, like a knock of Watch Mojo, Mr. Enter annoys me with getting angry over nothing and his bizarre alt right views, but none of them are alt right grifters like Clownfish TV is, who pretend to hate everything for clicks, so none of them are as bad as Clownfish TV.

Roundtable, Saberspark, Alpha Jay and Rebel Taxi are pretty good.

I don't care for shows like Infinity Train and Kipo and the Age of Wonderbeasts because they're basically despair porn. I don't enjoy watching shows where the world has turned into trash, everything is awful, everyone is miserable but they keep fighting. However, things can never improve for the protagonists because then there wouldn't be any more show. I've never understood the appeal of this type of programming. I don't want to watch a cartoon where the overall tone is bleak and dark. I like positive things. I get no enjoyment from watching people being miserable for half an hour. I watch cartoons (and TV in general) in order to feel good, which is why I prefer more light hearted fare..

I am going to come with my own controversial opinion, just because something has dark content or a scary setting or even has a scary villain, that doesn't make them despair porn.

You can have something set after the apocalypse and make a hopeful story about making the best of life after an event like that.

Castlevania and Invincible had really dark moments, but the series finale of Castlevania and the first season of Invincible have hopeful endings.

Dark content doesn't make something bad or good, its how its handled that matters.

1) I knew Clownfish TV sucked before, but damn. Just one more person I'm glad is off my radar and good riddance - I'm a much happier person for it, honestly.

2) DAMN STRAIGHT. Light? Dark?? Grey??? Yeah and Whatever. Just DO. IT. ACTUALLY WELL. and I. HOPEFULLY. WILL. WATCH. And I hopefully will enjoy it myself, too (again - if it's done well, of course!). Please and thank you very much.

I don't like Mr. Enter, but I don't think he is a Fandom Menace style grifter, the other 2 are low effort creators, but grifters like Clownfish TV are the worst, because they are never honest.

Doing something well is easier said than done, for the most part no one sets out to make out to make a flop, it often just happens for a million different reasons. I more dislike things done for very cynical reasons.

There is the issue of done well can depend on the target audience, I am far outside the target audience for kids animation, but I can still enjoy it if its depending on its content but I do not expect to be catered by content outside of my demo. I like the current batch of more serious adult animation, the type of action cartoon I grew up with is somewhat more rare, at least on regular television and really most of the current adult animation is more appealing to my tastes.

There is nothing wrong with a comedic kids cartoon, but it likely will not appeal to my sense of humor. I just think if someone thinks Kippo is misery porn, that feels a little sheltered to me, anyone can like what they want, but I feel like kids can handle something with real stakes, Kippo is not The Road.

Just like shows with dark and depressing overtones don't appeal to my sense of humor. Fair enough, you like what you like. Different strokes for different folks and all that.

For the record, I can handle shows with bleak and dark settings and real stakes fine. I just don't enjoy them. Like I said before, I watch cartoons to escape from reality, not to be reminded that the world can be a dark place and that life is hard. I'll watch the news if I want to be depressed. When I watch TV (cartoons especially), I'd much rather laugh and have a good time.

Also, I never agreed with dismissing comedic cartoons as being "kid stuff". I'm an adult who would take a light hearted comedy over a dark drama any day of the week. I'd rather watch a marathon of Uncle Grandpa than one episode of Infinity Train. If that makes me weird, then just call me "Mr. Weirdo".

I am just saying anything with a few harsher elements in a show doesn't make it misery porn.

The recent She-Ra show had a genocidal cult leader as the final villain, but the first season had She-Ra going to a princess prom, they built up to the scary villain, but the show had enough light hearted elements that you can't say it was just dark and nothing else.

There is a huge middle ground between everything bring sunshine and rainbows and misery porn.

I think if you want to ease kids into the reality of the world, there is nothing wrong with using allegory to teach kids about real world issues, it's what X-Men does all the time.

With all due respect, I think that you're taking my choice of words (in this case, the use of the term "misery porn") much too seriously. To quote the late Heath Ledger's Joker "Why so serious?"
I just think jokes in a kid show usually don't do it for me, but there are exceptions.
And that's fine. Again, you like what you like and I like what I like. It's like a kid who doesn't understand why their grandfather would rather play Wii Sports than Call of Duty; it's because Grandpa fought in a war and he did that mess in real life. I've lived through the harshness of the real world, and it wasn't fun, so I prefer my cartoons to be light hearted and fun. And overall, I prefer kid's cartoons because the writers of kid's cartoons understand comedy better. Too often adult cartoons these days are unfunny Family Guy knockoffs made by writers who think that "gross, shocking and offensive = funny", but again, we're getting into personal tastes.

If you like shows like Infinity Train and Kipo and the Age of the Wonderbeasts, then continue to enjoy them. Meanwhile, I'll keep right on enjoying Looney Tunes, Animaniacs, Chowder, Regular Show, Rocko's Modern Life, Futurama and Jellystone. Dark cartoons just aren't my jam. They never were and probably never will be.

Unikitty was the best thing that came out of the Lego animated projects. A shame that, aside from the blink-and-you-miss it Puppycorn "cameo", the other characters didnt make it to The Lego Movie 2.

Kids and teens' humor is often very endearing and charming. I love to see kids acting like kids. ATLA does that amazingly well, and I hate when people act as if the characters acting silly, goofy and being childish sometimes is a flaw when the characters are kids.

I have no problem with kids acting goofy, they are kids. My taste in humor trends towards darker materials, I do like classic stuff like Simpsons and Seinfeld. I actually get my humor from podcasts like We Hate Movies and Double Toasted, not every joke lands, but I like them, but they are not really jokes for kids. Something like Last Podcast on the Left, is a really acquired taste. Kids humor is not going work for me usually, given my taste in humor.

We Hate Movies actually has a patron tier where they review old cartoons and their recent review of an episode of Doug was pretty funny, IMO. Double Toasted reviews animated content sometimes, there was a pretty funny bit where they reviewed a Barbie PSA and they did a pretty good roast of Food Fight.

What do you think about kids shows with dark humor like Gumball, Unikitty, Gravity Falls, and stuff like that?

I haven't seen those shows, outside of a bit of Gravity Falls, not enough to make a proper judgment about it.

Astroboy is obscure? It was one of the first anime brought over here!
Outside of anime fandom, the only people I've come across who remember it are those who saw it on TV back in the 1960's.
The character is fairly iconic, but the distribution, marketing and accessibility of all Astro Boy animes here in the West is horrible. So little mainstream discussion online. And let's not bring up the atrocious dubs and editing made here.
Atleast in the US, it pretty much fell off the radar after the original show stopped airing in the 1970's and never recovered. The 2000's reboot may have gotten overshadowed by Pokemon when it aired on Toonami.

You speak of atrocious dubs, but since you're posting from Brazil are you talking about the English or Portuguese ones?
In my opinion, the 1960's English dub was pretty good for its time considering the dubbing studio didn't even have access to a translation and had to make up their own dialog with limited resources. Also, foreign-language dubbing was a lot more difficult back then than it is today because of no computer editing equipment being involved.
The series had to be edited for violence at the time, because American TV standards of what was acceptable to show to children was tighter than what Japanese TV could get away with. The dub also had to have all Japanese cultural references scrubbed out because anti-Japanese sentiment was still very rampant in the US (only being 20 years since the end of WWII). It made sense at the time to disguise it as an American-made product, because many TV channels wouldn't air a show made in Japan (especially in the Southern US where a lot of veterans lived). Godzilla movies seemed to be the exception and were often the subject of mockery.

I feel that the US is the worst country in the West when it comes to Astro Boy's success. Astro Boy found at least slightly better luck and popularity as an iconic character pretty much anywhere else, including Brazil. The 2000s anime was a decent hit here, I think. And its brazilian dub is just dubbing the american one, with all its cuts.

I don't think that the 60s and 80s Astro Boy animes ever aired here. But surprisingly enough, Jetter Mars did, and is fondly remembered by some people who grew up in the 80s. It was basically an Astro Boy clone that Tezuka made before the 80s anime, because he was having copyright issues keeping him from rebooting thr character, so he created a new one who is mostly very similar. Jetter Mars was named here "O Menino Biônico".

I would like to briefly talk about anime dubbing here in general. The 80s and 90s were the anime boom here in Brazil. And one big catalyst for it was TV Manchete. It was a TV network, and it was free, it wasn't cable. Non-cable TV was pretty much non-existent back then. They quickly rose to become one major TV network, in the Top 3. And they also bet on anime, super sentai and stuff like Jiraya, Jaspion, Ultraman, and so on, as part of their children's programming. And achieved so much success that everyone else started airing anime too! Stuff like Sailor Moon, Pokemon, Digimon, Yu-Gi-Oh, Yu Yu Hakusho, Dragon Ball Z, Knights Of The Zodiac and so on, were immensely popular. Of Super Sentai, Flashman and Changeman were probably the most successful.

Alamo was the brazilian dub studio responsible for dubbing pretty much all anime in the 80s and 90s here in Brazil if I'm not mistaken. And their dubs generally didn't have the level of censorship from the american ones, I think they even used the original japanese one as basis. One example that seems to confirm this is the iconic "It's over 9000!" meme. But it was actually meant to be 8000, that's what the original japanese dub says. And the brazilian dub correctly says 8000, and that's how the meme is here in Brazil.

Alamo also wasn't afraid to throw a lot of brazilian slang and bold expressions, they got really creative, and they also had unique voices. Their dubs are often beloved to a point that many fans would never even want to watch the original. Yu Yu Hakusho is one particularly notable and beloved example. It's so full of brazilian slangs, popular sayings, expressions and so on, that it effectively makes the anime seem a brazilian show! It reaches parody levels, I'm a brazilian and even I can't understand even half of the slang here, and most of us don't come close to using so much slang in our daily lives. The personel at Alamo was really creative and bold. Links below for the brazilians in this forum.

Man, I think about someday making a thread focusing on iconic brazilian dubs, and also cartoons that gained a huge popularity here in Brazil far beyond its country of origin, like Static Shock, Dungeons And Dragons, Woody Woodpecker, Top Cat, Wacky Races...

The 2003 Astro Boy had a fairly prominent run on the BBC in the UK. I don't know how popular it was though, there was never a DVD release of it here or anything as best I can tell. The 2009 film did a little better here than it did in America too.

I have the Region 1 DVD set for that series, which has individual covers for each of the discs. Much like the US covers for Kirby games from that timeframe, all the images show Astro looking angry or peeved in a way that doesn't reflect the character at all, which I find quite amusing.
