Unconventional or unpopular opinions you have (re: animation)

I believe Chris Columbus was planning to make a live action Peanuts in the 90s. No tears from me over that one TBH. I don't think it's so much a thing Schultz forbade, as much as his family seem reluctant to stray from anything he himself didn't do with the characters while he was alive.

Was 1999 One of the Best Years for Film?

I don't love how the Ice Palace looks on screen, but I think it's a great idea for a Bond villain lair. People say it's too fanciful, but unlike many things in Bond movies (and indeed that one in particular) such structures actually exist; I visited an Ice Bar in Oslo back in 2006. It also has...

    Unpopular Opinions

My mother's name is Karen, so needless to say I wasn't too enamoured of the trend. But my mother is a teacher, and it doesn't seem to have had any adverse effect on her popularity with the Gen Z 16-18 year olds she teaches, so as far as I know it's ultimately pretty harmless, at least here in...

Was 1999 One of the Best Years for Film?

I do quite like Police Academy, but I mentioned films not so much on the basis of whether or not I personally liked them, so much as them having a notable cultural footprint, which Police Academy, with its six sequels and two TV series, to start with, certainly does. I enjoy all Bond movies on...

Was 1999 One of the Best Years for Film?

Not necessarily to my tastes, but it's probably the best year for movies in my lifetime (born end of 1986). Outside of the films mentioned so far there's The Mummy, Notting Hill, American Pie, Pokemon: The First Movie, Sleepy Hollow, Deep Blue Sea, Bowfinger, She's All That, Three Kings, The...

Cartoon shows with Elderly main characters?

Igor and Nanny from Count Duckula are hundreds of years old in the "lore", and act like and were played by people (then) well over the age of 50.

    "Ghostbusters: Afterlife" Feature Talkback (Spoilers)

It's OK, in a lot of ways not as "off" as I had feared from the trailers etc, but not as good as I'd hoped. Grace was good, her sidekick straddled the line between slightly annoying and somewhat endearing, the other two kids were dull. Paul Rudd is Paul Rudd, and a lot of people seem to be...

Unconventional or unpopular opinions you have (re: animation)

Two Animaniacs ones: 1) I find Mindy and Buttons fairly funny and quite endearing 2) Goodfeathers aren't too bad either, I suspect they may have become infamous largely because they made up about a third of the (brief) second season (including back to back shorts comprising an entire episode), a...

Much less than 35 years "officially" for countries outside the US too, where the politics of the late 19th century south are or were much less well known, and VHS and Laserdiscs were released in the 80s/90s. Here in the UK the BBC showed it on TV about once every other year from 1996 to 2006.

"Animaniacs (2020)" Series Talkback Thread (Spoilers)

Unless I'm looking in the wrong places, doesn't it seems like there's been a faction of the interest this time? I guess you can't really live up to "back after two decades!" with "back! Again! After twelve months!" I guess I'm no exception because I gobbled the "first" season up over a weekend...

Is there more quality control with animation today than in the past?

A fair point. Of course, it's easy to forget/overlook how many kids today are watching that weird algorithm generated stuff like Wolfoo and "11 Elsas jumping on a bed" or whatever. Don't know if that kind of stuff should be factored in, even though it's not formally part of the industry.

Who are the nicest cartoon characters ever?

As much as people hate him, Ash Ketchum is generally a pretty stand-up dude.

MeTV should create a classic cartoon channel!

I listened to Jerry Beck and Mark Evanier being interviewed on Leonard Maltin's podcast. Beck mentioned that he gets more contact from young people seeing vintage cartoons for the first time on MeTV than he does HBO Max, which has a similar range of cartoons. Now that's anecdotal, and I believe...

I definitely preferred it that way, but when is the last time they did it? The last season of Garfield & Friends? Maybe a commercial since then?

Animaniacs (2020) News & Discussion Thread

Stuff like that is so strange and funny to me, reminds me of how the Witch in Disney's Oz film in 2013 had to avoid being specific shades of green to ensure it didn't infringe on the 1939 film.
