Time to take this board out of mothballs.

Some of the most amazing scenes I have seen in some time.

Gonna copy paste my review from the other thread.

11/22:
Just got back from a screening. Spoiler free review: lots of birbs. If this be his last movie I say it stands well with the rest of his movies proudly. I believe the movie did take many elements from Spirited Away, but it had its own unique theming to stand out from it. The ending felt like I was watching a different movie but then it all wrapped up together by the end. There were some ambiguous pieces but I believe that’s up to the viewer to decide what they mean.

Is this streaming anywhere yet? I know at one point Max had all the Ghibli movies but I don't know if that's still the case.

I imagine it wouldn't be streaming anywhere yet. I'm sure it will eventually go to Max but considering how this movie is actually doing really good at the Box Office right now (I guess there isn't any competition but still) they aren't going to want to put it on streaming till likely early next year.

I don't personally think this movie is as good as I guess everyone else. I really enjoy all the stuff with Mahito and his whole arc but honestly there's also the stuff with the alternate worlds and... if we're trying not to spoil anything (despite this being a spoiler talkback) or go into detail, the stuff with that huge group of birds in that world felt more confusing then it really should have been. Honestly this isn't like Spirited Away where this whole other world is given a better time scale/stakes for Mahito to journey through where it's harder to gauge the progress because my god did the last 15 minutes feel super ridiculously rushed here and when it hit the ending I was like "wait what?" It's not bad always kept my attention but far from the best Hayao Miyazaki movie I've seen... but thinking about I've honestly only seen 3 so what do I really know?

I definitely want to re watch this movie with English dub just to hear Robert Pattinson yuck it up as a creepy old bird man. Seeing what Daniel Radcliffe and Robert have become in their wild roles (Daniel as Weird Al) is just something to behold.

Also of note the first PG-13 animated film to win best animated feature. It always seemed like being rated above PG drastically lowered the odds of winning the award. At least one major barrier was broken.

Also this was the first movie since Spirited Away to be a traditional hand drawn film to win best picture and third overall (counting Del Toro's Pinocchio) that wasn't CG so props on that. Again not my favorite (I do feel Spider-Verse was the best but I think Spider Verse not having an ending cause it's setting up for the third made it hard to be seen as best on it's own. Big reason why The Two Towers despite many claims of it being the best LOTR film didn't sweep the academy but Return of the King did) but major props on it for the win.

"Review: The Boy and the Heron: Another Miyazaki Masterpiece"

The-Boy-and-the-Heron.jpg

"The Boy and the Heron, written and directed by Hayao Miyazaki, fashions a fantastical Alice in Wonderland tale that occurs during the Pacific War in Tokyo. A young boy named Mahito Maki (voiced by Luca Padovan) loses his mother to a hospital fire late one evening. Although he never sees what actually happened to his mother, the fire burns into Mahito’s memory when he rushes out to see the fire. A year later, Mahito’s dad, Shoichi (voiced by Christian Bale), who owns an air munitions factory, moves Mahito and himself out of Tokyo to the countryside home of his late wife along with his new pregnant wife, Natsuko (voiced by Gemma Chan), who is the sister of his late wife.

As soon as Mahito steps into the countryside home, a grey heron swoops right past his face. Intrigued, Mahito stalks the heron and follows it to a mysterious tower on the estate. Supposedly, the tower was the last place that Mahito’s great granduncle was seen before disappearing suddenly without a a trace. Mahito luckily escapes the tower intact and gets a warning by the caricature grannies who care for him and Natsuko at the home."

Tried to record an LPS unboxing video today. Unfortunately, my tablet's camera doesn't pick up sound very well. Have to think of an alternate solution.
Bad news.

How is Robot Dreams rated PG-13 for "some language and smoking" when there is, in fact, no dialogue spoken at all?
