A Western animation Ultraman? Not sure how to feel about that .

I hope it's truer to the source than the Netflix cartoon .

I'm hoping that if this movie becomes a hit, then it'll convince Tsuburaya to make more animated adaptations of Ultraman (Anime, Western, or otherwise).

I started the series that is on Netflix, but never got around to finishing it. Most of my Ultraman experience comes from Superhuman Samurai Syber Squad and once watching the animated movie Hanna Barbera was involved with.

All they have to do is put out a good looking product to get my attention.

Not sure why this thread was never updated, but the movie releases June 14, 2024 on Netflix. Here is the teaser trailer released back in November:

Coming at this as an Ultraman novice, that was a great superhero film. Ken was a solid protagonist. The action and animation were fantastic.

I think the conflict is a little muddled, though. Maybe it's more clear in the other iterations of the franchise. There's a focus on Ultraman's duty to protect both humanity and the kaiju, but it's not clear why kaiju leave their island to attack Japan in the first place.

The News Team's RoyalRubble has a new review on the front page of AnimeSuperhero.com:

"Review: “Ultraman Rising”: Giant-Sized Superhero Spectacular"

urrf.jpg

"Ultraman: Rising is the newest entry in the Ultra Series franchise, produced by the Japanese special effects studio known as Tsuburaya Productions. The franchise is already decades old by this point, with its first chapter (the TV series titled Ultra Q) having debuted in 1966. Focusing on the adventurers of Ultras, a race of alien superheroes who often combat giant monsters (kaiju) or other aliens, the series are very popular in Japan and have become pretty famous internationally, as well. Full disclosure: as I personally am not overly familiar with the franchise before now, there might be some homages I missed out on, as well as people more familiar with the lore might have a different opinion on the movie as a whole.

This new movie was released on Netflix last month. It’s directed by Shannon Tindle (in his feature directorial debut); Tindle also co-wrote the story alongside Marc Haimes. The story focuses on Kenji “Ken” Sato (voiced by Christopher Sean in the English dub), a teenage professional baseball player, a very cocky one at that, who needs to learn how to be part of a team. He moves back to Japan to play for another team but in reality, he is also the newest human to bear the mantle of Ultraman, and as such he can change into a giant superhero when the world needs saving. Even as a superhero he still kind of makes a spectacle of himself as he would on the baseball field, and taking into account his size and powers, he causes some collateral damage during the fights."

Like most of the recent Netflix animated movies, that one wasn't dubbed into Serbian. In fact, as far as ex-Yugoslavia is concerned, why the recent Netflix animated movies get only dubbed into Croatian?

How is Robot Dreams rated PG-13 for "some language and smoking" when there is, in fact, no dialogue spoken at all?
